The Yawuru people are the traditional owners of the lands and waters in and around Rubibi (the town of Broome) from Bangarangara to the yalmban (south) to Wirrjinmirr (Willie Creek) to the guniyan (north), and banu (east) covering Roebuck Plains and Thangoo pastoral leases, in the Kimberley region of northern Western Australia.
Mabu Yawuru Ngan-ga language centre is the heart of Yawuru language revival and preservation. Setup in 2011 under Nyamba Buru Yawuru, the Language Centre plays a vital role in strengthening cultural identity, intergenerational knowledge transfer, and community pride through ongoing teaching, documentation, and celebration of Yawuru language.
